How can I increase the frequency of the Wi-Fi signal scanner?
Since Android 9, the frequency of scanning is throttled to twice per minute by the operating system to preserve battery power. This means that the Wi-Fi Signal tool in Network Analyzer is restricted to performing its scans at about 30-second intervals.
However, there is a workaround that enables more frequent scans.
- First, you have to enable the Developer Options menu in Android — see, for instance, this article: https://developer.android.com/studio/debug/dev-options
- Inside the new Developer Options settings page, look for the item named "Wi-Fi scan throttling" and disable it.
- In Network Analyzer Pro 3.8 and higher, there is a new settings option named "Increase Wi-Fi scan frequency" that you can enable to get roughly a 5-second interval between scans. (Note that if you skip steps 1 and 2, just enabling this option will not work.)
