Ping and traceroute don't work, what's wrong?
There may be several reasons why you don't get any ping responses from the other device:
- Make sure your router's security settings don't filter ICMP packets, which are the packets used by ping. This typically happens when the router is set to a "high"/"increased" security level or similar.
- Make sure the router doesn't isolate LAN devices from each other (usually called something like "wireless isolation"). In that case, the probes sent by Network Analyzer cannot reach the other device on your LAN.
- Some devices simply don't respond to ping.
- If you ping a remote device/server, the device may be firewalled, in which case you won't receive any response. Some Internet providers also use their own network traffic filtering and may filter out ICMP packets.
